Christina Barton qualified as a nutritional therapist in 1998 at the Californian Bernard Jensen College of nutrition and has been practising for the last seven years. She works alongside conventional medicine and is currently conducting trials at Great Ormond Street Hospital on treating Inflammatory Bowel Disease through naturopathy.
Christina's unique approach to nutrition is inspired by both naturopathy and homeopathy and her aim is to create physical harmony in the body and mind to inspire dynamic health. She is finalising her studies to become a Bio-energetic Engineer and specialises in blood and urine analysis.
In 1991 Christina Barton contracted a tropical virus on her honeymoon in Indonesia. After years of illness and an array of medicine, the illness was only truly abated when a naturopath in St Lucia prescribed a strict new diet regime. It was the success of this treatment, which prompted Christina to train as a nutritional therapist.
After school Christina studied law at university and went on to have a successful career in the advertising and the luxury goods industries. She married at 27 but was unable to return to work after contracting the virus. She was investigated at the Hospital of Tropical Diseases in London but it was not possible to determine the exact virus and she could only be treated for her symptoms. She was subsequently diagnosed as having the auto-immune disease Lupus, 'chronic fatigue syndrome', jaundice, encephalitis, chronic capillary fragility and she developed three duodenal and two peptic ulcers.
In 1995 she went on a recuperation holiday to Houston and was recommended to visit the leading specialist at The Baylor College of Medicine. After extensive tests he diagnosed the tropical virus to be Haemorrhagic Dengue Fever and found that all the medication she had been prescribed had reached toxic levels. He also noted inflammatory changes to the inter-vertebral disc of the spinal column, with resultant collapse and nerve root damage. He recommended a complete detox and following three months of treatment her health began to restore.
In early 1996 she went on a holiday in St. Lucia and visited a naturopath who turned her life around. He combined a dietary plan with the mineral supplements from the American Mount Capra range. For the first time in five year's she felt healthy and normal.
Following the success of the treatment and her extraordinary personal experience she returned to California in 1996 to study in nutritional therapy. She decided to import the Mount Capra range of products into the UK and in 1998 she launched her nutrition and well-being company Chrisbar.
